Dr. Swadhin Sen

Dr. Swadhin Sen is Professor of Archaeology at Jahangirnagar University and a leading archaeologist in Bangladesh, with over two decades of experience in field archaeology, heritage studies, and archaeological theory. His work bridges excavation, survey, and ethnographic approaches to explore human–landscape–water interactions in the alluvial terrains of South Asia. Dr. Sen has directed major archaeological projects across northern Bangladesh, including the discovery of Buddhist monasteries and early Pala-period temples, and has published widely on the archaeology of early medieval and medieval South Asia. He has co-edited volumes with international scholars, most recently The Archaeology of Early Medieval and Medieval South Asia: Contesting Narratives from the Eastern Ganga-Brahmaputra Basin (Routledge, 2023). His expertise spans cultural heritage management, geoarchaeology, palaeoecology, and critical heritage studies, with a particular focus on rivers, water, and memory in South Asian societies.
