Shama Ubaed is a Bangladeshi politician and Organizing Secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). The daughter of the late K. M. Obaidur Rahman, former Secretary General of the BNP, and Professor Shaheda Obaid, former chairman of the Dhaka Education Board, she carries a strong political legacy. She is married to Shovon Islam, owner of the Sparrow Group, a major garments manufacturing conglomerate.
Ubaed entered politics after her father’s passing in 2007, contesting the Faridpur-2 constituency in the 2008 general election, where she earned significant grassroots support. Since then, she has grown into a key figure within the BNP, now serving as Organizing Secretary. In this role, she is actively involved in shaping party strategies and representing the BNP in high-level meetings, including diplomatic engagements. Recognized for her strong voice and leadership, she is regarded as one of the emerging leaders driving the party’s future direction.
