Mohammad Tajul Islam is a Bangladeshi lawyer and Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), appointed by the interim government in September 2024 with the rank of Attorney General. Born on March 25, 1973, in Jamalpur, he studied law at the University of Rajshahi, completing his LLB (Hons) in 1995 and LLM in 1996. He began his legal career in 1998 and became an advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh the following year. Before his current role, Islam built a long career as a defense lawyer, appearing in significant war crimes cases at the ICT. Since his appointment, he has reorganized the prosecution office and launched new cases tied to crimes against humanity during the July 2024 uprising. In April 2025, he announced the formation of a second tribunal to expedite proceedings. Islam has pledged to complete trials of senior commanders and strengthen the pursuit of justice.
