Dr. Rubaiya Murshed is an education economist, Assistant Professor at the University of Dhaka’s Department of Economics, and an author. She earned her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Cambridge as a Commonwealth Cambridge Trust Scholar, where her thesis examined the labour and non-labour market outcomes of education in Bangladesh. She also holds an M.Phil. in Educational Research from Cambridge and degrees in Economics from the University of Dhaka.
Her research focuses on education economics, human capital development, behavioural economics, and quantitative methods. Alongside her academic work, she serves as a part-time Education Research Consultant with UNICEF’s Global Office of Research and Foresight. Dr. Murshed is also a published writer; her short story collection Nobody’s Children explores the lives of homeless children in Dhaka. A regular columnist for The Daily Star, she writes extensively on education policy and reform, including her series “Educating Education.”
