- Economist and Political Analyst
Zia Hasan is a Bangladeshi economist and political analyst recognized for his insights on the country’s economy and banking sector. He has served as a project researcher for Germany’s federal government on education and research, while in Bangladesh he is a regular columnist for publications such as the Dhaka Tribune. Hasan has also been a featured speaker at key forums, including a 2024 discussion on restructuring the state and economy in post-uprising Bangladesh.
A strong advocate for banking reform, he has argued against the central bank’s merger and acquisition strategy for weak banks, instead proposing the establishment of “super banks” to stabilize the sector. Beyond banking, his writing spans politics, economics, and history, with published books and essays, including commentary on Bangladesh’s fiscal risks, Japanese investment resilience, and geopolitical balancing between India and China. Since the 2024 uprising, Hasan has been an active voice for systemic reform and democratic accountability.
