Professor Dr. A. K. Enamul Haque is a Bangladeshi environmental economist and the Director General of the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS), a position he assumed on March 20, 2025. He holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Natural Resource Economics from the University of Guelph, Canada, and earned his B.S.S. and M.S.S. in Economics from the University of Chittagong.
Before joining BIDS, Dr. Haque served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at UCSI University Bangladesh and held professorships at East West University, North South University, and United International University. His research focuses on environmental and natural resource economics, climate change, food and agricultural policy, and international trade, particularly in South Asia. He has collaborated with international organizations including the World Bank, IFC, UNDP, IUCN, and GIZ, and has served as an advisor to SANDEE and the Government of Bangladesh. Dr. Haque is a prolific author, contributing extensively to academic literature in economics and development studies.
