Dr. Sayed Nizar, also known as Syed Moynul Alam Nizar, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh, specializing in non-Western logic, philosophy, and decolonial thought. He earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, in 2021, with research on catuskoti, a classical Buddhist logical system. He also holds an M.Sc. in Mathematical Logic and Theory of Computation and a B.A. (Hons) in Philosophy and Social Sciences from the University of Manchester, UK.
Dr. Nizar’s work explores Eastern reasoning systems, Indian logic, and contemporary formalizations of Navya-Nyāya, challenging Western-centric notions of rationality. His research also examines the philosophical implications of decolonization in art and culture. He has published on the impact of colonization on Indian art and mentored programs addressing decolonization in the visual arts. Previously, he was a visiting scholar at the University of Canterbury and served as the New Zealand representative for the Australasian Association of Philosophy postgraduate committee.
